Besides, being grown up means being independent, what's independent about smoking? . . . No way - cigarettes are so last season . . . If you were my friend you wouldn't be asking me to do something that could hurt me . . . No way - nobody smokes anymore. I'm in the majority mate . . .

The resource specifically addresses tobacco issues within an Aboriginal cultural framework and aims to:

engage all students, staff and the school community
provide students with knowledge and understanding of the effects of smoking and skills to advocate against smoking within an Aboriginal cultural framework.

The activities in the Healing Time Stages 2 and 3 kit support learning outcomes identified in the NSW Personal Development, Health and Physical Education and English K-6 syllabuses.

The kit includes the following components:

a staff, parent and community manual
a Stage 2 teacher's manual
a Stage 3 teacher's manual
seven copies of Araluen's story
seven copies of David's story.

Stage 2 has a particular focus on passive smoking and the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000 whilst Stage 3 focuses on the effects of smoking, reasons for not smoking and advocacy skills.
