Q. The smell from other people's smoking makes me sick. What can I do about it?

FAQs

Answer:

You don’t wear someone’s second hand underwear, so it’s no wonder you don’t like their ‘second hand smoke’ or enjoy ‘passive smoking’. Not only is it making you feel sick, it can cause many health problems e.g. asthma, respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia and bronchitis, sore eyes, sore throat, breathing problems and an increased risk of lung cancer.

To avoid breathing other people's smoke try:

  • politely asking them not to smoke when they are near you, whether you are outdoors, indoors or in a car as it makes you feel unwell;
  • moving yourself away from them;
  • making your house and car smoke free zones;
  • putting up ‘No Smoking' signs in your smoke free zones.
